Somerville Man Arrested In Suspected Shooting Attempt
Police say 22-year-old Tevon Ngomba's gun jammed during an altercation.

A handful of eyewitness accounts, and of course a loud bang, led to the arrest of 22-year-old Tevon Ngomba, of Somerville, according to police. Ngomba has been charged with carrying a firearm without a license, assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault with attempt to murder, among other allegations.
Hypothetically, charges might’ve been harsher, had Ngomba’s gun not apparently malfunctioned during the incident.
At approximately 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, April 5, police responded to a report of shots fired on Sydney Street. A witness told police that as she was at home minding her own business, she heard a nasty argument and what sounded like gunshots outside on the corner of Taylor and Sidney Street.

On the phone with 9-1-1, she said she watched two black males yelling, and one carried a black and silver gun. The gun-wielder, allegedly Ngomba, shouted “You (@#$%^),” and aimed at the other man’s torso. Then he then lowered the gun and slid it back and forth repeatedly. Police say the sliding indicates that the gun jammed.
After this, Police say Ngomba ran toward Grant Street, and the unidentified victim got in the back of an idling vehicle and exited the scene. A Massachusetts State Trooper later picked up Ngomba, who was then transported to Somerville Police Department without incident.
