SOMERVILLE, MA — Resident Bhavika Kalia has been nominated by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women to represent Somerville as a 2025 Commonwealth Heroine.

Kalia has been a pivotal member of the youth leadership program known as Somerville Positive Forces, which she has been a member of since she was in the sixth grade.

“Bhavika (Kalia) is a leader among leaders and a true gem in our community. Her dedication and drive to create positive change are truly inspiring,” Heller-Bottari said. “Her voice is powerful, her presence is impactful, and it’s no surprise that leaders across the state are taking notice as she continues to shine.”

Kalia was nominated by State Rep. Christine Barber. Kalia was a large supporter of introducing the “Nicotine-Free Generation” policy in town earlier this year.
