They're Not Going To Pay Rent In Somerville: Report
Protestors want to get 75,000 signatures for a rent control ballot initiative.
SOMERVILLE, MA — Community members gathered in Union Square on Monday night to protest rising rent costs in the city, according to a report from Boston 25 News.
More specifically, the protestors had the goal of getting a rent control option getting placed on the statewide ballot for 2026. According to Protest organizer Samantha Wolfe, rent affordability has become a persistent issue in Somerville due to corporate investors buying properties on a large scale and drastically raising prices.
Protestor Gary Rogers said he has refused to pay his increased rent rate at his apartment for more than 18 months.
