Somerville Uses School As Winter Homeless Shelter
The Cummings School is open at night to people dealing with homelessness during the winter months.
SOMERVILLE, MA — Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and the Office of Health and Human Services announced the city has opened its overnight warming center for the winter season for people struggling with homelessness.
The Center is located at the Cummings School located on 42 Prescott St., and will remain open seven days per week from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. through Sunday, April 13.
In its first four days, the center has already welcomed 30 people and given them access to hot meals and sleeping spaces.
The center is only open to adults struggling with homelessness, therefore the city encourages families to contact the Office of Housing Stability at 617-625-6600. The center is currently accepting donations of socks and hot chocolate.
