SomerVision, City's Plan for the Future, to be Honored Friday

The American Planning Association's Massachusetts Chapter is giving Somerville the Comprehensive Planning Award.

Somerville's comprehensive plan, known as SomerVision, is being honored by the American Planning Association's Massachusetts Chapter, according to an announcement from the city of Somerville.

The planning association is giving SomerVision the Comprehensive Planning Award for a municipality with a population of over 50,000, the announcement says.

Westford is getting the Comprehensive Planning Award for a community with a population under 50,000.

Somerville will receive the award at a luncheon on Friday, according to the announcement.

SomerVision maps out the goals and aspirations for Somerville over the next 20 years.

In a statement about receiving the award, Somerville Planning Director George Proakis said the city was honored and that SomerVision was the result of three years of work by volunteers who "wanted the final document to be accessible and fun to read, and to tell interesting stories about the great things happening in our city."
