Union Square Space Getting Roof Renovations
Somerville is repairing the former firehouse's roof to preserve it for the future.
SOMERVILLE, MA — The city announced that roof repairs for the structure that resides on 90 and 92 Union Square will begin this week.
Somerville’s Capital Project Division is spearheading the project for a building the city describes as being in need of significant structural upgrades. The building was first built in the late 19th century, and was last used as a firehouse. The main goal of the roof repair is to prevent any more water damage to the location. As a part of the repairs, the building's clock tower is slated to be totally disassembled and removed.
While a specific use has not been identified for the building moving forward, the city plans to create a purpose for it eventually.
