Unknown Powder Prompts Hazmat Response In Stoneham
Hazmat crews removed the substance from a home on Franklin Street Thursday.
STONEHAM, MA — The Stoneham police and fire departments responded to a hazmat incident on Franklin Street Thursday. Emergency crews were called to the scene around 10:50 a.m. for a report of an unknown powdered narcotic.
The situation was declared a Tier 1 Hazmat incident and the State Hazardous Materials Team responded. Less than an ounce of the substance was discovered and removed successfully from the home.
Franklin Street and a portion of Summer Street, which intersects with Franklin Street, were closed for much of Thursday.
