5 Things, October 5: Stoughton Farmers Market This Weekend; SHS Homecoming (And More...)

1. Farmers Market Coming to Stoughton This Weekend

The Stoughton Farmers Market Committee has been hard at work planning for a single farmers market event in town this fall, with the long term goal of having regularly scheduled farmers markets in 2013.

The preview event is scheduled for Saturday, October 6, 2012 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Trackside Plaza (2 Canton St.).

It's free to the public and will feature vendors selling produce, cheeses, meats, breads, baked goods, and a free sampling of Crescent Ridge milks.

Those who purchase from vendors will receive a giveaway - reusable shopping bags.

In addition to the wide selection of foods, there will also be plenty of family-friendly entertainment - music, a story hour, face painting, balloons, and baby farm animals in diapers to pet.

A weekly farmers market in Stoughton is planned to start this coming June.

Working with the Pioneering Health Communities and We Are U-Knighted groups, the aim of the Stoughton Farmers Market Committee is to be able to make locally grown, fresh fruits and vegetables and other healthy foods more readily available in Stoughton. The hope of having the market at Trackside Plaza is to also boost foot traffic for downtown businesses.

2. Funeral for Stoughton High Senior David Wade to be Held Friday

David Wade, a 17-year-old senior at Stoughton High, died after being accidentally shot on Saturday, Sept. 29.

Funeral Service will be held at the St. James Church, 560 Page St., in Stoughton on Friday, October 5 at 10 a.m.

3. Stoughton High Football Homecoming Game

The Stoughton High football team hosts Hockomock League Davenport Division rival Foxborough Friday at 6 p.m. (note the time change). Friday night is Homecoming at Stoughton High.

4. SMAC Open House This Saturday

The following is from the SMAC website:

Stoughton Media Access Corporation (SMAC) is having an open house on Saturday October 6, from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. The studio is located at 421 Page St.

Stop by to check out what goes on behind the scenes at the studio. Producers, directors, camera operators, talent and staff will be on hand to give personal tours of the facility and show you what it takes to make your own TV show.

You will have the opportunity to get "HANDS ON" experience with the equipment!  Jump in the drivers seat and direct one of the shows, or jump in front of the camera and see how you look on TV!  Take a look at one of the three edit suites and see how fun editing is.

Become a member of SMAC; membership is FREE to Stoughton residents.

Refreshments will be served.

5. Destination Imagination Construction Challenge Car Wash

Stoughton High School Destination Imagination Construction Challenge teams are having a car wash at Walgreens in Stoughton this Saturday, Oct. 6, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

BONUS: First United Methodist Church "White Elephant Sale"

Stoughton's First United Methodist Church will be holding a yard sale and bake sale in the church's gym this Saturday, Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. All proceeds will go toward the ministries of the church.
