The Boston Bruins have been active partners and advocates for reading and literacy since 2009 when they joined the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC) and the Massachusetts Library System (MLS) to create “When you read, you score!” that works with the MBLC and MLS’ existing summer reading programs.

The Boston Bruins have donated a “Reading Rink” for the Children’s Area including a rug, table, chairs and book shelves.
“Having the Bruins support our literacy efforts, sends such a positive message to young readers,” said Children’s Librarian Barbara Pally.
The Stoughton Public Library Summer Reading Program has been active for over 35 years and serves over 700 children every summer in an effort to keep up their reading skills while on summer vacation.
Milan Lucic, Tyler Seguin, Brad Marchand and other players also helped libraries develop Favorite Books of the Boston Bruins, a recommended reads list, to encourage children and teens to read a variety of books over the summer. The complete list is available on mass.gov/libraries.
The Bruins also offer prizes for children and teens selected from a pool of candidates who demonstrate outstanding summer reading involvement. Among the prizes is the opportunity to greet members of the Boston Bruins as they get ready to take the ice during a Bruins home game.
