Coakley, Baker Win State Primary; Will Face Off for Gov. in November

Democratic candidate Steven Grossman conceded to Coakley Tuesday night.

Democratic candidate Martha Coakley and Republican candidate Charlie Baker won their respective races for Massachusetts Governor in the State Primary Election Tuesday, according to the Boston Globe. The two will face off for Governor this Nov. 4.

Coakley won Tuesday in a contested battle for the Democratic Primary, beating out opponents Don Berwick and Steven Grossman, who conceded to Coakley around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, having about 37 percent of the votes to Coakley’s 42.1 percent with about 80 percent of the polls reporting. The results on the Democratic side as of 10:25 p.m., according to the Boston Globe, are as follows:

  • Coakley: 42%
  • Grossman: 37%
  • Berwick: 21%

On the Republican side, Baker won with 74 percent of the votes over opponent Mark Fisher, who received 25 percent, according to the Globe.
