Former Stoughton Police Officer Susan Walsh Dies

Former Officer Susan Walsh was the first woman to ever serve as a detective on the Stoughton police force.

STOUGHTON, MA — Former Stoughton police Officer Susan Walsh died, the police department announced Monday.

Walsh, a 29-year Stoughton police veteran, was the department's first woman to ever become a detective. She grew up in Stoughton with five siblings and became interested in a law enforcement career while taking classes at Massasoit Community College. She joined the department in 1980, serving with her brother David, who has also since retired. Walsh served on the Stoughton police force until her retirement in 2009.

During her nearly 30-year career, Walsh worked as a midnight shift patrol officer and then became a detective, best known for investigating sexual assaults, home break-ins and more. Toward the end of her career, Walsh was assigned as the police prosecutor at Stoughton District Court.

"She was meticulous in her investigations and was frequently lauded by the District Attorney's Office because of it," police said in a statement on their Facebook page. "She was known for her quick wit and could always make her colleagues laugh with stories told in a way that only she could deliver."
