Goldberg Appointed Acting Deputy Chief of Stoughton Fire Department

Stoughton Fire Chief Mark Dolloff announced that Greg Goldberg is now the Acting Deputy Fire Chief.

Stoughton Fire Chief announced that Acting Captain has been appointed to serve as the department's Acting Deputy Chief.

Goldberg replaces former Acting Deputy Chief Scott Breen, who requested to return to his role as a Captain, Dolloff said. 

Dolloff said Breen "did an outstanding job" as Acting Deputy Chief.

"It's sad to see him leave the position," Dolloff said. "[He was] more than capable."

But in Goldberg, Dolloff found a "more than capable" replacement.

The Chief credited Goldberg, a 17-year veteran of the SFD, for his vast knowledge of fire prevention law and code enforcement. Goldberg had previously served as a Lieutenant of fire prevention.

"He represents the department well," Dolloff said.

Goldberg is also active in the Stoughton community, well known for his work with the .

When former Chief in April of 2011, then Deputy Chief Dolloff became , before being in October of 2011. Last spring, shortly after Dolloff became Acting Chief, Breen became Acting Deputy Chief.

Now Goldberg will hold the Acting Deputy Chief position for the next two to three months, Dolloff said. 

Four members of the SFD (Goldberg included) took the Civil Service Competitive exam on March 24. The grades will be released in 60-90 days and then Dolloff said he will look to promote a permanent Deputy once he receives the results.
