Selectman Anderson Uses QR Technology to Generate Support for Reelection Bid

First-term selectman John Anderson announced the release of a QR (quick response) code that will take residents to his Facebook campaign page.

The fact has set up a Facebook page for his reelection campaign isn’t out of the ordinary— political candidates from the local to national level make use of the social media site, and have so for quite some time.

But how Anderson is promoting his Facebook page is a bit unique.

“In this age of high tech and rapid communication,” Anderson announced via email “his QR (Quick Response) code which will lead to his Facebook [page].”

“This will assist residents with up to date information and provides a method to ask and receive comments,” from the Selectman, Anderson said.

By simply using a QR code reader app on your smart phone, your phone can scan the barcode, process it, and then bring you directly to the company or organization’s website.

It’s used in the retail world in various advertisements. And in Stoughton, it is most notably used by the , with the barcodes found on its fleet of cruisers.

Anderson is a first term selectman seeking reelection. He is currently the vice chairman of the Board (the QR code is posted in the media gallery).

There is s Selectmen Candidates' Forum on Thursday, March 8, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the at 110 Rockland Street, which will feature all four candidates vying for two seats on the Board of Selectmen—Anderson, current selectman Cynthia Walsh, and Joe Mokrisky.

The annual town election is Tuesday, April 10.
