The heat index is expected to top 100 degrees in several Massachusetts cities later this week.

STOUGHTON, MA — A text alert was sent out to Stoughton residents Wednesday notifying them a cooling center is open at the Stoughton Public Library for residents who need relief from the heatwave.

The opening alert comes after state officials issued a heat advisory for Wednesday, August 11 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, along with an excessive heat watch on Thursday. The advisory includes all of Massachusetts, except for the Cape and Islands.
