Lincoln-Sudbury High School Senior Signs On to Play Golf at California State University at Chico
The all-star golfer has been named an All-Scholastic Athlete twice.

A Lincoln-Sudbury High School senior has signed up to escape frigid Massachusetts winters and will be making a beeline for sunny California following graduation.
Matt Hutchins, an all-star golf player at Lincoln-Sudbury, signed a letter of intent to play on the men’s golf team at California State University at Chico for the fall of 2015.
He told The Orion, Chico State’s student newspaper, that he’s looking forward to meeting other players and people attending the school.

Hutchins has been playing golf since 2008 when he started tagging along to public golf courses with his dad at 12 years old. Since then he has been named to the Boston Globe and the Boston Herald’s lists of All-Scholastic Athletes twice and won the New England Junior Amateur Invitational with Team Massachusetts.

“If a young man shows dedication to the team and then shows the ability to play his way into position, we want him here in Chico,” Chico State’s men’s golf coach T.I. Brown said to The Orion.
Brown said on the Chico State men’s golf webpage that Hutchins has everything the school looks for in a great student-athlete, including experience volunteering in his community and a great track record in the classroom.
Hutchins said on his website that he is excited to attend Chico State in the Fall and to continue his passion for golf on the school’s team. But, he told The Orion, as a New Englander he expects it will be challenging to get used to life on the west coast.
To many Sudbury residents suffering through the eight feet of snow and below-zero temperatures this winter has brought Massachusetts, however, that doesn’t seem like a bad thing to do (Chico, CA has a high of 72 degrees Friday.)
