Sudbury's Atkinson Pool Reopens Amid Renovation Project

The pool has been closed since the spring due to the larger Fairbank Community Center rebuild.

SUDBURY, MA — Summer is almost over, but swim season is back in Sudbury.

The town's indoor Atkinson Pool reopened for lap swimming Monday after a more than three-month closure related to the ongoing Fairbank Community Center renovation and rebuild.

The pool closed in early May for upgrades, including fixing leaky drains, installing new windows, building new entrances to the locker rooms and a new gutter along the pool. Construction crews are still working on the dive wells at the pool, and those will not be available right away.

Sudbury broke ground on the Fairbank Community Center renovation about a year ago. The project will add a new gym to the front of the building, and a new senior center where the main parking lot was located. Demolition of the old senior center could begin this fall.

The Atkinson Pool is open daily from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. for either members or day users. Swimming on weekends is by appointment only.
