Dog Dies, Family Displaced By Swampscott Fire

Neighbors have organized a donation drive for the family displaced by the two-alarm fire on Manton Road in Swampscott.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — A family of four was left temporarily homeless after a two-alarm fire damaged their home on Manton Road in Swampscott Thursday night.

Fire officials said a scanner report during the fire that someone had been taken to the hospital was inaccurate, but the family's dog did die after being pulled from the house. The fire was reported around 7 p.m. Thursday when the homeowner returned to find smoke coming from the house.

Fire fighting crews from Peabody, Lynn and Marblehead provided mutual aid to the Swampscott Fire Department. The fire was extinguished by 8 p.m. but the house had heavy smoke and water damage.
