Man Who Confessed on Camera to Stealing Copper Sentenced to Jail
A suspect in the highly publicized theft of copper downspouts from churches and Swampscott Town Hall in January has pleaded guilty.

A man who confessed on camera to stealing copper downspouts from several Swampscott buildings, including Town Hall, has been sentenced to to nine months in jail and ordered to pay $6,363.89 in restitution, according to WCVB-TV.
It was Steve Marshall, 36, of Lynn - who at the time lived in Peabody - that invited a WCVB camera to meet him at the Swampscott police station in January to turn himself in.
At the time, Swampscott police said that at least two homes, two churches and Town Hall were all hit, with copper downspouts stolen from each location. Police released surveillance photos of the thieves and reached out to the public for help identifying them.

On Wednesday, Marshall was in Lynn District Court and pleaded guilty to six counts of malicious destruction of property over $250 and six counts of larceny over $250, according to a report by the Daily Item.
Marshall was sentenced to 2½ years in the house of corrections, with all but nine months to be served and the remaining portion suspended during two years of probation. He was also credit for the 202 days he has already spent in jail, being held on $15,000 bail, according to the Item.
