Firefighter Transported, Swampscott Restaurant Damaged in Two-Alarm Blaze
A Swampscott firefighter was transported to the hospital for observation after suffering possible smoke inhalation while battling the blaze.

UPDATE, 9:45 p.m.:
China Green on Burrill Street in Swampscott suffered an estimated $300,000 in damage when a fire started Thursday afternoon in the restaurant’s kitchen.
Swampscott Fire Capt. Graham Archer said a 911 call came in at 4:27 p.m. Thursday about a fire at the restaurant which is attached to a residence. When firefighters arrived, there were flames showing through the restaurant’s roof and plenty of smoke.

Two employees inside the restaurant at the time the fire started were able to safely evacuate and no one was home in the attached residence at the time, Archer said. A Swampscott firefighter was taken to the hospital Thursday night for observation after suffering possible smoke inhalation.
The heaviest of the fire was in the restaurant’s ceiling, and firefighters were able to keep the blaze from spreading into the residence. Still, Archer said, the two individuals who live in the residence have been displaced for a time due to smoke and water damage. He said the American Red Cross has been contacted to assist the residents.

The two-alarm blaze took about an hour for firefighters to knock down; they cleared the scene just before 8 p.m.
The fire remains under investigation, but Archer said there’s no reason to think the fire was suspicious.

The Swampscott Fire Department has knocked down a two-alarm fire at the China Green restaurant located on Burrill Street.
According to the Lynn Daily Item, no one was hurt in the blaze that started in the ceiling of the restaurant and extended into an upstairs apartment.
As of about 6 p.m., the fire was reportedly knocked down.
