Swampscott Cheer, Field Hockey, Football Win The Weekend

All three teams advanced to the next round of state competition with their efforts this weekend.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — Three Swampscott High teams are marching on in the state tournaments after a stellar weekend of competition for the school's athletic program.

The Swampscott football, field hockey and cheer teams advanced in the state tournaments, while the Big Blue also earned honors in girls soccer and boys cross country.

The football team reached the Division 5 state semifinals with a 23-9 victory against Dover-Sherborn. The undefeated and second-seeded Big Blue (10-0) now advance to face Bishop Fenwick Friday night at Lynn's Manning Bowl at 8 p.m.

The fifth-seeded field hockey team also moved on to the state semifinals where they will next meet top-seeded Sandwich at Nowell High School Wednesday night. The field hockey team advanced with a 2-1 triumph against Triton Regional.

And members of the cheer squad will be taking their talents to States after they finished second in the Regionals.

More honors for the athletic program came on the cross country trails where freshman Anton Khripko qualified for States with a 27th place finish at the Division 2C Championships in Gardner this weekend in 18 minutes, 5 seconds.

The Eastern Mass. Girls Soccer Association announced their honors for the fall season on Monday with Maddie Hudson named a Division 3 First Team Eastern Mass All-Star.
