Swampscott Coronavirus: Selectmen Postpone Election, Town Meeting

Swampscott voters will head to the polls on June 2 instead of April 28 after selectmen unanimously approved the postponement.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — Swampscott voters will head to the polls on June 2 instead of April 28 after selectmen unanimously approved the postponement in a virtual meeting Wednesday.

The board also pushed back the date of the annual town meeting to June 22 from May 18. Towns across the state have been rescheduling elections and town meetings as the state's shelter in place advisory to slow the spread of the new coronavirus continues.

As of Monday, the Massachusetts Municipal Association said nearly 20 towns had already acted on Baker's order giving local boards the power to postpone elections and town meetings scheduled for this spring. That number has been increasing this week as town boards hold their first meetings since Baker signed the emergency order.
