Swampscott Could Get $1.3 Million From CARES Act

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — Swampscott is eligible to receive up to $1.3 million from the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act passed in March.

The money is coming from $502 million of the $2.7 billion Massachusetts received. The money can be used to reimburse money spent specifically due to the coronavirus pandemic — things like personal protective equipment, disinfecting, temporary housing for quarantined people, short-term rental or mortgage help, and a number of other things — but cannot be used to replace lost revenue or fill gaps in the budget.

The state used population to determine how much each of the 327 municipalities eligible for the funding can claim. The average award is $1.5 million, and the median is $864.573.
