“Historically it’s been difficult for a number of communities – probably most communities – to get people to be involved in boards and committees,” Town Administrator Tom Younger said. “We’re just looking at this point to allow all residents to be a member of our team. This is your opportunity to get involved.”
Younger said selectmen are reviewing the credentials and qualifications of new applicants as well as those seeking reappointment to a particular position and hope to have all the appointments made by the end of August.

In order to be considered for a board or committee opening, applicants should fill out the online volunteer application form on the Town of Swampscott website. For positions not listed on the form, simply check the “other” box and explain for what committee you’re applying in the comments section. Applications should be completed by July 31.
Younger said the volunteer application response has been larger this year than in previous years -- as many as eight people applied to fill a vacated planning board position, he said. But there’s still plenty of opportunities, including on the new municipal communication and turf field implementation committees.
