UPDATE: Swampscott Man Pleads Not Guilty to Killing Puppies

Jason Gentry, 34, of Swampscott, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges he killed two puppies found in a trash bag behind a Revere gas station last November.

The Boston Globe reported Gentry entered the not guilty pleas in response to two charges of cruelty to animals and two charges of malicious killing of animals. He was released on $1,000 bail after his arraignment at Chelsea District Court.

The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement that a second man, 51-year-old Dominick Donovan of Long Beach, N.Y., has been arrested on a warrant connected to the case.

Assistant District Attorney Vincent DeMore told the court that the bodies of two dogs were found in a trash bag behind a Revere gas station on Nov. 22, 2014.

A necropsy performed by the Animal Rescue League of Boston revealed the puppies, one male and one female, were about 20 weeks old and in good health at the time of their deaths.

The dogs were Donovan Pinschers, a breed Donovan created.

According to the DA’s office, the dogs were being housed at Gentry’s animal training facility, Alpha Canine Performance of Lynn, when Donovan arrived to transport the dogs to New York.

Gentry later told police that the two dogs were hanged at his facility because they failed to meet breed standards.

Gentry is due back in court Sept. 3.

A 34-year-old Swampscott man has been charged with killing two puppies whose remains were found behind a Revere gas station last fall.

According to a Revere Police Department statement, Jason Gentry, has been charged with two counts of animal cruelty and two counts of malicious killing of an animal and was scheduled for arraignment at Chelsea District Court on Tuesday.

On Nov. 22, 2014, a landscaper at a Sunoco gas station on North Shore Road in Revere found two dead puppies, both pit bull mixes, in a trash bag behind the building, according to WHDH. The puppies were believed to be six to eight weeks old.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing. A second suspect has been identified, police told the Boston Globe.
