Swampscott's Baker Will Face Coakley Statewide for Gov. in November, Grossman Wins Swampscott

Democrat Martha Coakley and Republican candidate Charlie Baker of Swampscott won their respective races for Massachusetts governor in the state primary election on Tuesday, according to the Boston Globe. The two will face off for governor on Nov. 4.

Coakley won Tuesday in a contested battle in the Democratic primary, beating out opponents Don Berwick and Steven Grossman, who conceded to Coakley around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, having about 37 percent of the votes to Coakley’s 42.1 percent with about 80 percent of the polls reporting. The results on the Democratic side as of 10:25 p.m., according to the Boston Globe, were as follows:

• Coakley: 42%
• Grossman: 37%
• Berwick: 21%

In Swampscott, Coakley was second to Grossman. Coakley had 716 votes to Grossman’s 921 votes and Berwick’s 344 votes.

On the Republican side, Baker won with 74 percent of the votes over opponent Mark Fisher, who received 25 percent, according to the Globe.

Baker also won by a wide margin in Swampscott. Baker had 533 votes to Fisher’s 47 votes.
