Sweep for Drugs, Weapons at Swampscott Schools Comes Back Clean

The sweep occurred on Nov. 24 at Swampscott High School and Swampscott Middle School.

A recent planned safety and security K-9 sweep of Swampscott’s middle and high schools uncovered neither drugs nor weapons in either building.

On Nov. 24, the Swampscott Police Department and the Essex County Sheriff’s Department conducted a “safety and security dog sweep” of both Swampscott High School buildings and the associated parking lots. During the sweep, a federally mandated Medical Emergency Response Drill was also conducted.

As part of the sweep, a few classrooms were randomly selected for a check. Before the dogs entered, students were escorted from the room. In general, classroom activities continued throughout the sweep, which was ”professional” and “efficient,” according to Superintendent Pamela Angelakis, who said in a statement that she personally monitored the sweep.
