Wednesday Fundraiser Will Benefit Swampscott Marine's Memorial Scholarship

Stop by for a pick-me-up and proceeds will be donated to a scholarship in memory of Capt. Jennifer J. Harris, USMC.

Capt. Jennifer J. Harris was just 28 when the helicopter she was piloting crashed into field in Iraq on Feb. 7, 2007. Harris, along with six others on board, were killed.

On Wednesday, July 29, a summer service project aims to raise money for the Capt. Jennifer J. Harris Memorial Scholarship Fund through a fundraiser at 986 Humphrey St.

From 6 a.m.-1 p.m., patrons can purchase “sweet treats,” iced coffee, lemonade, iced tea and Arnold Palmers with all proceeds being donated to the memorial scholarship fund, according to a post on the Swampscott Fire Fighters Union Facebook page.

Harris was a graduate of Swampscott High School and was killed during her third tour in Iraq.

According to the scholarship’s website, ”The purpose of the Jennifer J. Harris Memorial Scholarship Fund is to provide scholarships in Jennifer’s name to students wishing to further their education. It’s a tribute to Jennifer’s commitment, dedication to higher education and to the United States Marine Corps.”
