Young Girl, 6, Alerts Firefighter's Family to House Fire

It is a 6-year-old girl that is being credited for alerting a Swampscott firefighter’s family that their home was on fire early Tuesday morning, in time for them to all get out safely.

The home of firefighter Anthony Pierro was destroyed and the family lost everything, according to the Swampscott Firefighters Union Local 1459.

Nobody was injured in the fire at 670 Humphrey St., not far from Blocksidge Field. The fire broke out at about 4:45 a.m. and went to two alarms, bringing in firefighters from Lynn, Marblehead, Peabody and Salem to assist.

“Thankfully the family escaped unharmed,” the union said in a Facebook post. “Please keep the famliy in your prayers.”

The 6-year-old daughter heard a fire alarm going off and woke the rest of her family, reports WHDH-TV channel 7.

At least six people were inside the home when the fire started, WHDH reported. Everyone got out safely.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
