5 Things You Need to Know about Tewksbury's Zero Waste Day
The town's 7th annual Zero Waste Day is set for Saturday, Sept. 26
Tewksbury’s 7th Annual Zero Waste Day is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Wynn Middle School parking lot. Annually, 400 to 500 or more donors participate in this drive thru donating and recycling event.
Categories of items that can be donated include: clothing, shoes, baby gear, furniture, bikes, building supplies, books and media, animal care products, linens, household goods.
Categories of items that can be recycled include: electronics, off-rim tires, batteries, cell phones, printer cartridges, paper.

There is a nominal fee for electronics recycling, as there is indeed a cost associated with responsibly recycling electronics. There is no fee for donating or recycling paper, tires, batteries, cell phones or printer cartridges.

ZWD is an opportunity for residents to clean out your attics, basements, closets, and garages of used but usable items and pass them on to local people in need. To make it extra easy to share your donations, Zero Waste Day organizers have invited 14 organizations to come to the Wynn Middle School parking lot so residents don’t even need to leave town. Simply load up your car, drive on thru, and they will even help you to unload your car and distribute your donations.

Big Brother Big Sister Foundation, Bikes Not Bombs, Boston Building Resources, Central Mass Mosquito Control, Community Giving Tree, Electronic Recyclers International, Lowell Humane Society, Mission of Deeds, More Than Words, MSPCA/Nevins Farm, Neighbors in Need, Paper Retriever, Project Home Again, and Wish Project of Lowell.Visit the Zero Waste Day website to find links to each organization’s website.
What kinds of donations are accepted?
There are too many things to list here but view the website for more information. Items include: clothing, shoes, furniture, household goods, bikes, baby gear, books, pet supplies, building supplies and more). It’s important to note: If you would not pass your donation on to a friend, please do not bring it to Zero Waste Day. Items should be clean and functional and should maintain the dignity of the recipient. Please be aware that the cost of disposing of damaged or unusable items takes important funding away from the ultimate mission of our participating non-profits.
What kinds of donations are not accepted?
Please do not bring the following types of items: trash, hazardous waste, exercise equipment, toys, anything that is damaged and would not maintain the dignity of the next owner.
