Bomb Threats at Several Massachusetts Schools Monday

At least a dozen high schools, including Tewksbury, received bomb threats Monday morning, thought be the latest in a string of hoaxes.

TEWKSBURY, MA - A number of high schools in Massachusetts received bomb threats Monday morning, including Tewksbury Memorial High School and Shawsheen Tech. The threats are thought to be the latest in a string of hoaxes over the last few months.

Tewksbury Memorial High School received a bomb threat via automated telephone call Monday morning, the superintendent's office confirmed.

Police confirmed threats in high schools in Cambridge, Brookline, Ayer, Newton, Hudson, Leominster, Hopkinton, and Billerica (Shawsheen Tech), while multiple people reported threats in Stoneham, Tewksbury, Lexington, Marlborough and Wakefield.

The threats of the previous few months have been received by an robot telephone call. There is no word on how Monday's threats were received.

While the threats have become all too common, schools have struggled with how to react without overreacting. What would have triggered a school dismissal just a year ago now often results in a short break while law enforcement sweep the school.
