Ipswich River Community Chorus is kicking off its spring season with two open rehearsals on January 12th and 19th at 7:30 p.m. We are an 80-member non-audition chorus based in North Reading. Join us to meet the chorus and explore our spring program: One Nation, Many Voices: America at 250. We welcome adults and teens (14+) of all abilities and parts--especially Tenors and Basses!

Tewksbury’s Wamesit Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons partners with the American Red Cross to collect blood donations that help patients of all ages: accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those battling cancer. If interested in donating blood, please schedule an appointment by downloading the American Red Cross Blood Donor app, by visiting <a href="https://www.redcrossblood.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://www.redcrossblood.org/</a>, or by using the QR code below. The blood donation process from the time you arrive until the time you leave takes about an hour, although the donation itself is only about 8-10 minutes of that time on average.

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s message about unity focuses on his dream of a world where people overcome division through love, service, and mutual respect, emphasizing that unity isn’t passive but requires active work to achieve a “more perfect Union.” Let us ensure his legacy lives on through collective action for a better future.
We honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision of unity by committing ourselves to live, learn, and serve together. Grounded in our shared humanity, we embrace collective action so that his enduring legacy of love, justice, and solidarity continues to lead us toward a more unified future. Guided by his example, this celebration reflects our theme, “United We Stand — Divided We Fall.” Dr. King’s words still call us to action: “We must learn to live together as brothers and sisters or perish together as fools.” May we answer that call—not only today, but every day.
In tribute to Dr. King, this year’s event will feature a distinguished and visionary keynote address by Dr. Patrick Tutwiler, Secretary of Education for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. A respected leader and advocate for educational equity, Dr. Tutwiler brings a wealth of experience, thoughtful insight, and a deep commitment to empowering communities through education. His remarks will challenge us to reflect, inspire us to lead with purpose, and encourage us to take meaningful action in the spirit of Dr. King’s call for unity and shared responsibility. <a href="https://www.templeemanuel.net/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Temple Emanuel</a> of Andover’s Social Action Committee will present the next program in its Community Speaker Series, “Lazarus House Ministries – Supporting the Community with Dignity and Compassion,” on Sunday, February 1, 2026, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. The event will take place at Temple Emanuel, 7 Haggetts Pond Road in Andover, and will be offered both in person and via Zoom. The event is free and open to the public with advanced registration required, by <a href="https://templeemanuelofandover.shulcloud.com/form/lazarus" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">clicking this link</a>. 
The program will feature leaders from <a href="https://www.lazarushouse.org" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Lazarus House Ministries</a>, a nonprofit organization based in Lawrence dedicated to supporting individuals and families facing poverty, homelessness, and food insecurity. Through a comprehensive network of programs—including emergency shelter, transitional housing, food distribution, community resource services, education, and advocacy—Lazarus House works to uplift the most vulnerable members of the local community with dignity, respect, and compassion. The program will include remarks by Carmen Vega, Executive Director, Lazarus House Ministries and Nancy Gottesman, Major Gifts Officer and member of the development team, as well as a video presentation highlighting the many ways Lazarus House Ministries serves those in need.
“We are honored to welcome Lazarus House to Temple Emanuel and hear directly from their leadership about the organization’s mission, the scope of its programs, and the ongoing need for food, housing, and resource support in Greater Lawrence,” said Kathe Tuttman and Susie Novick, co-chairs of the Social Action Committee Speaker Series. “Their work represents a powerful example of neighbors helping neighbors. This event is an opportunity for our community to learn more about the challenges facing families in Lawrence and to explore meaningful ways to offer support.”
