Candlelight Vigil Tonight on Tewksbury Town Common for Newtown Victims

A Tewksbury resident is organizing a candlelight vigil to remember the 27 victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting on Friday.

Twenty children were killed in the attack, as well as six adults. A 27th victim, the mother of alleged shooter Adam Lanza, was found murdered at her home.

The candlelight vigil is scheduled to begin tonight (Saturday, Dec. 15) at 7 p.m. on the Tewksbury Town Common. The organizer of the event, who asked that her name not be published, said she felt sadness and helplessness in the wake of the tragedy and that she felt compelled to do something for the victims and their families.

Here is a text of the email she is circulating, announcing the vigil:

"What to do when you don't know what to do ... I'm so sad about what has transpired in Connecticut that I'm looking to be with people in the hopes that coming together will bring us some sense of community that will in some way help these families through the unthinkable. Just need to be with people.
