Chief Sheehan Proud Of Officers Who Travelled To Visit Sick Child

Stricken with cancer, Nathan Norman wanted to be visited by as many of his heroes as possible.

Police Chief Timothy Sheehan said he is extremely proud of the six Tewksbury Police officers who took part in a project to brighten the Christmas of a young Virginia boy stricken with cancer.

More than 250 officers, representing 85 departments in New Hampshire and Massachusetts took part in a caravan that travelled to Lynchburg, Va. on Wednesday. And today, they visited six-year-old Nathan Norman, giving him his own personal parade of first-responders.

Virginia TV station WSET covered the visit. You can see their report here:

"The men did good! If you look close enough you can see the Tewksbury Police Department Ford Expedition, Car #26 pass by Nathan while he is waving to the convoy," said Sheehan. "This is the true meaning of Christmas. I am very proud that this Department had the opportunity to be a part of this incredible endeavor to make a Christmas wish come true for a deserving little boy.

"The entire Department came together with gifts, donations, and Christmas cards for the journey. God bless Sgt. McDonough, Burlington Police Department, for his initiative."

The project came about because of a story written about Nathan that mentioned all he wanted for Christmas was contact from as many police officers and firefighters as possible. these men and women are his heroes and this Christmas he asked his heroes to make his wish come true by sending him cards, letters and patches —anything with a first responder insignia.

These 250 police officers went well beyond dropping a patch in the mail. They presented themselves to Nathan in person and brought just a little bit of Christmas magic along with them.

Tewksbury Police Department representatives in the event were:

Detective Lieutenant Ryan Columbus

Detective Michael Donovan

Officer Robert Bjorkgren

Officer Paul Nicosia

Officer Edward Jackman

Officer Andrew Richardson
