Cyber Week's Best and Worst Retailers

What companies offer the biggest discounts? What category has the biggest savings? WalletHub took an in-depth look.

Sales are expected to hit $3 billion this year. If it hits this mark, it’ll be the largest one-day sales total in e-commerce history.

WalletHub, the personal finance website, took an in-depth look at 2015’s Best & Worst Retailers for Cyber Week.

As a holiday shopper assist, WalletHub surveyed 3,128 deals from 30 of the biggest U.S. retailers to showcase the ones offering the largest advertised discounts for each product category in 2015.

Best Retailers for Cyber Week:

1. Groupon (62 percent)

2. Belk (59 percent)

3. Bon-Ton (56 percent)

4. JC Penney (53 percent)

5. Macy’s (52 percent)

6. eBay (50 percent)

7. Kohl’s (50 percent)

8. Sears (49 percent)

9. Amazon (42 percent)

10. Kmart (40 percent)

Groupon had the highest overall discount rate, and Gander Mountain has the lowest, at 14 percent.

Here are the five lowest, according to WalletHub’s survey:

  1. The Gap (25.6 percent)
  2. Best Buy (23.5 percent)
  3. CVS Pharmacy (22.8 percent)
  4. Walgreens (21.9 percent)
  5. Gander Mountain (13.5 percent)

WalletHub also found that jewelry is the most discounted category, at 56 percent. The least? Computers and phones and video games (software) - both were found to be discounted at 28 percent on average.

The overall average discount for Cyber Week is 36 percent. “Consumers should aim for this or a greater discount in order to avoid Cyber Week traps,” said WalletHub.

Apparel and accessories represent 15 percent of all Cyber Week offers, and is the category with the largest number of discounted items. Video games (software) again lands at the bottom of this category, with only 1.3 percent on all offers.

In five out of nine products, the discount was bigger on Black Friday, and in four out of nine products, the discount is bigger during Cyber Week.
