LETTER: Sitting Selectman Endorses Wentworth

Wilson calls Wentworth a thoughtful decision maker.

To the Editor:

I am writing this letter in support of Jim Wentworth and his campaign for a seat on the Tewksbury Board of Selectmen.

I have had the privilege of knowing Jim for 27 years.   Many will think that this deep friendship is the basis for my support, which doesn’t begin to speak to why Jim has the experience, passion and desire to help lead our community.

Since 2009 when I was elected to the Board of Selectmen, Jim has been my confidant and greatest critic as we have dealt with many challenging situations in Tewksbury.   Regardless of the issue, Jim’s approach has been consistent.   He is brutally honest and enjoys a spirited debate as he pushes for real solutions.   Jim also spends the next few days researching the issue and then will revisit recommendations he may have to resolve the problem.   As our community deals with complex issues, this is the type of leadership needed to understand the issues fully and come up with good long term solutions.   Jim is a thoughtful decision maker that is not going to provide false hope or empty promises but he is the candidate that will give you a real vision of what a better Tewksbury can look like in our future.

I am excited when I think about the energy and new ideas Jim would provide as we move this community forward.   When I have had the opportunity to hear him talk about Economic Development or helping us create a stronger sense of community, I know this is not campaign rhetoric, but Jim sharing with us what he truly believes.

I have always admired that he has a core set of values that he was raised believing and that he still believes today.   It has led to some great discussions as Jim will sit back and listen to my different point of view as we both get informed and increase our education.

One of Jim’s core values is the belief that people should give back to their community.   Jim’s family clearly believes in this virtue.   Jim’s wife, Kelly, has been coordinating the “Treats for Troops” drive which occurs each Halloween and sends candy overseas to our service men and women.    Jim’s oldest daughter, Katelyn, coordinated the “Teens for Jeans” at the High School which received a record number of jeans for those less fortunate.   When Jim has not been busy coaching youth soccer or softball, he has gotten involved in the Economic Development Committee, the Community Outreach for the New High School and the Town Manager Selection Committee.   Jim is clearly a guy who does more than just live in Tewksbury, he is someone who volunteers his time to try and make things better.

I am supporting Jim Wentworth for election to the Board of Selectman because as a resident I believe he will help improve our town.   I believe that Jim will address the tough issues and communicate with the residents on how they can help.  I encourage you to cast one of your votes for Jim Wentworth on April 6th.

Thanks,

Scott Wilson
