Music Approved for Cafe Sicilia, Bringing Unique Atmosphere to Tewksbury

Tewksbury's Board of Selectmen approved an Entertainment License for the local business at their Tuesday meeting.

Tuesday night's Board of Selectmen meeting was music to the ears of Joe Mazzola.

Mazzola, the owner of Cafe Sicilia, finally received its entertainment license after multiple appearances in front of the board.

Thanks to the license, Cafe Sicilia will be able to hold low-key outdoor musical entertainment at its restaurant, located at 1300 Main Street.

The goal of the entertainment license was to have the occasional mandolin performance to make for a romantic atmosphere for dinner guests.

"When I heard about this, it sounded like a great, out of the box, romantic, classy, un-Tewksbury idea," said selectman David Gay, before clarifying with a laugh. "Not to say that Tewksbury doesn't have class."

As a part of the entertainment license, Cafe Sicilia was granted permission to hold outdoor entertainment with no amplification or loud music from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Selectmen had to be certain that granting the license would not negatively impact abutters in the residential area nearby.

The license was approved by a vote of 4-0, with Doug Sears abstaining because Cafe Sicilia is one of his clients.

"It sounds like this will be a nice change and something that people can latch onto," said Gay.
