A little holiday magic has turned things around.

The Redmen used a stifling defense and a balanced offense to capture the Melrose Holiday Tournament with a 48-37 win over Falmouth High.

Five different TMHS players scored at least seven points. Forward Shannon Smith paced the Tewksbury attack with nine points and eight rebounds. Senior Nicole Chaet had eight, while Shannon and Sara Semenza and Kelli Sugrue chipped in with seven points each.

With the win, Tewskbury improved to 2-3 on the young season.

Boys Basketball

Wilmington 67, Tewksbury 58

The Redmen fell short in their bid for an early season championship with a 67-58 loss to host Wilmington high in the finals of the Knights of Columbus/Larry McGrath Holiday Tournament

Redmen guard Kevin Dick poured in 20 points to lead all scorers. Nate Tenaglia dropped in 11 points and fellow freshman Justin Derraah added nine. Alex DiRocco also chipped in with nine points. Dick and Tenaglia were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Tewskbury dropped to 4-3 on the season.
