Tewksbury 56, Lawrence 49

The Tewksbury High girls basketball team honored the memory of the late Meghan McCarthy and picked up a much-needed victory, 56-49, over the Lancers.

It was the annual Meghan McCarthy Memorial game and at halftime, McCarthy's jersey was raised to the rafters of the new Tewksbury High gymnasium.

On the court, this year's Redmen proved to have McCarthy's "Tewksbury Tough" spirit as they scraped out a critical win in their quest for the State Tournament berth. The Redmen are now 5-8 on the season.

Senior Nicole Chaet came up just short of a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Shannon Smith had 10 points and fellow sophomore Amanda Brown chipped in with nine.

Boys Basketball

Billerica 71, Tewksbury 53

This one hurt.

Having picked up some much-needed momentum recently, Tewksbury seemed primed for a win over the 2-10 Indians. But it was not to be.

Tewksbury had no answer for Dan Najjarian, who paced Billerica with a game-high 20 points.

Sophomore Alex DiRocco had 17 points to lead Tewksbury.
