Scam Alert: Tewksbury Police Warn Of Officer Impersonator
The caller, with a 978 number, claimed to be with the Tewksbury Police Department.
TEWKSBURY, MA — Tewksbury police warned of an attempted scam Thursday where the scammer impersonated a member of their department.
The caller had a 978 area code and called a resident claiming to be a Tewksbury officer.
"They told her that her personal information was compromised and asked her to confirm her identity," the department said. "Fortunately, the resident was savvy enough to suspect a scam and did not give her information to the caller."

The department advised residents to call them if they suspect a scam.
"If you are ever unsure of who you are speaking to, you can always tell them that you will call them back after confirming their affiliation with us," the department said. "When in doubt, give us a call at 978-851-7373."
