Storm Brings Heavy Rain and Strong Winds to Tewksbury

NWS forecasters issued a flood watch, and high wind and surf advisories.

With cool temperatures and rain in the forecast, Sunday will feel more like a New England fall day instead of the second Sunday in summer.

Rain, heavy at times, with localized flooding, will taper off to showers and/or drizzle later Sunday morning and continue into the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. Forecasters have also issued flood watch, and high wind and surf advisories for the rainstorm that began Saturday night in the region.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory that will be in effect until noon on Sunday for eastern Massachusetts. A wind advisory is issued when sustained winds are forecast to be 31 to 39 miles per hour, or gusts will range between 46 and 57 miles per hour, according to NWS. Strong winds from the east may result in a few down tree limbs and branches, according to forecasters.

A flood watch will be in effect until 2 Sunday afternoon.

A high surf advisory for eastern facing beaches will be in effect until 8 Sunday night.

Temperatures are only expected to hit the low 60s. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Dry weather will return on Monday, with cooler than normal temperatures to star the week.
