SUM-IT Math Program at the Dewing School
More than three students participated in the program, accepting the challenge of completing three packets of math problems in three months.
This school year, 22 second graders and 15 first graders at the Loella F. Dewing Elementary School accepted the challenge to complete three packets of math problems over three months.
The SUM+IT Math program consists of 12 math-related activities in each packet, varying in difficulty and
complexity. Students pick five activities each month to complete with their families. The activities consist of real life scenarios using familiar items such as candies, street signs, dice and other household objects to teach students different math concepts. The SUM+IT Math program has traditionally been open to second graders at the Dewing, but this year it was expanded to allow first graders to participate as well. Participation was completely voluntary. The program was sponsored in part by the Dewing School PAC and Merrimack Valley Pavilion of Tewksbury.

Students who completed all three packets were invited to have lunch with Dewing Co-Principal Kevin Mc Ardle. The students were given Certificates of Completion and a special gift from MVP.
Thank you to all the families who spent time with their children and worked through the activities, and to the parent volunteers to made up the packets and got them distributed to the students. SUM+it Math Program is also offered to third and fourth graders at the North Street Elementary School.
