Suspect Flees But Can't Evade Police K-9 Geox

A Tewksbury ex-con is facing multiple new charges, including breaking and entering, after fleeing a traffic stop on foot because he was afraid to go back to jail.

According to Tewksbury Police, an officer on routine patrol at around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, spotted a black Pontiac Grand Prix traveling east on Andover Street and tried to pull it over for a defective light violation.

However, the driver pulled away and continued along Andover Street. According to the officer's report, the vehicle veered to the right several times without slowing down. Ultimately, the drier turned his vehicle onto Trull Road, pulled off to the side of the road and fled into the woods on foot.

The officer called for backup and several units responded to the scene to assist in the search. State Police also arrived at the scene and established a perimeter and the Tewksbury K9 Unit, Officer Al Piccolo and Geox, was also called in.

According to the report, Geox began a track starting at the location indicated by the officer who witnessed the suspect flee into the wooded area behind 585 Trull Road. A short time later the track led the officer to a storage shed located behind 1265 Andover St., where the suspect was found hiding.

The suspect was identified as Steven Flynn, 46, of 53 Juniper Lane, Tewksbury.

According to the report, Flynn told officers at the scene that "he was sorry and ran because he did not want to go back to jail." Flynn also told the officers that he was swerving because he was looking for a place to run away.

 Flynn is charged with operating a motor vehicle with a license that had been revoked for being a habitual traffic offender, breaking and entering in the nighttime with the intention of committing a misdemeanor, failure to stop for a police officer, various equipment violations and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

Additional Arrests:

John D. Gallinaro, 50, 14 Lake St., Billerica, was arrested on Oct. 23 on a warrant.

Additional Incidents:

On Monday, Oct. 22, at around 4:25 p.m., a resident of Pringle Street called police top report a break-in.

On Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 1:35 p.m., the manager of Fresh Express at 1706 Shawsheen St., called police to report that a woman had struck one of the gas pumps with her car and had then fled the scene before filling out paperwork for the accident. Two units responded to the scene and an officer planned to follow up with the manager on Thursday.
