Tewksbury man blows more than twice legal limit on breathalyzer

LOWELL - A 43-year-old Tewksbury man was placed on probation for one year after admitting to driving drunk - more than twice the legal limit - during an incident last year.

In Lowell District Court on Friday, John B. Roberts pleaded guilty to operating under the influence in connection with his Sept. 16, 2016 arrest by Tewksbury police.

Prosecutors dropped charges of: negligent operation of a motor vehicle; assault and batteryon a family member; and vandalism.

Prosecutors allege that while investigating an alleged assault at 1 a.m. on Sept. 16, 2016, Tewksbury police stopped Roberts as he drove along Andover Street.

Police noticed that Roberts showed signs of intoxication. He failed field sobriety tests and then registereda .17, more than twice the legal limit of .08, on a breathalyzer test.
