Tewksbury Man Sentenced To Prison For Drug Distribution

A Tewksbury man will spend the next two-and-a-half years behind bars after pleading guilty to multiple drug charges this week in Woburn Superior Court.

According to Tewksbury Police, Salvatore Matranga, 45, was sentenced to 30 months in jail for possession with intent to distribute a class B substance.

When he is released from prison, Matranga will serve another five years of probation (including mandatory drug testing) on additional charges of possession with intent to distribute a class B substance (2 counts), possession with intent to distribute a class C substance, and possession with intent to distribute a class E substance.

The charges against Matranga, stemmed from his arrest by Tewksbury Police July 12, 2010, for drug trafficking and distribution.

The case against Matranga began back in the spring of 2010. Investigators began surveillance on Matranga's home at 24 Juniper Lane and confirmed that numerous drug transactions had taken place, according to court records.

In July 2010, officers executed a search warrant on 24 Juniper Lane and Matranga's vehicles.  They found numerous prescription pills for which Matranga didn't have a prescription, both in the house and in the car. They also found cash and packaging used for drug distribution.
