Tewksbury PD Announces Dates For 3rd Annual Jr. Police Academy

The summer program is for kids entering Grades 5-8 who are interested in learning more about law enforcement. There are 3 weeklong sessions.

TEWKSBURY, MA — The Tewksbury Police Department on Friday announced the dates of its 3rd annual Jr. Police Academy this summer.

The 2023 academy will feature three weeklong sessions after last summer's academy featured just two sessions, the department said

The dates for the 2023 academy sessions are: July 17-21, July 25-29, and July 31-August 4.

"Due to the tremendous growth of this program, Chief (Ryan) Columbus is pleased to announce that this year we added an additional week," the Tewksbury PD said in a statement on social media. "For planning purposes, and to provide you with as much notice as possible, we are announcing the 'save the date' weeks for those who are interested.

Once again, the academy will be for students entering Grades 5-8 and feature numerous hands-on activities for kids interested in learning more about law enforcement.

Among the topics covered during last year's academy were: physical fitness and health and wellness, criminal law, investigations, cyber safety, CPR and first aid, drug and alcohol awareness, domestic violence, motor vehicle law, and mental health.

Attendees also were introduced to the department's K-9 Unit and Drone Unit.

Last year's academy was open only to residents of Tewksbury.

The Tewksbury PD said details still are being finalized for the 2023 Jr. Police Academy, and updates will be provided via social media.
