Tewksbury PD Team Participates In BFit Challenge Sunday At TD Garden

11 members of the department competed at the event, which features a grueling course of stairs and concourses and raises money for charity.

BOSTON, MA — Eleven members of the Tewksbury Police Department participated in Sunday's BFit Challenge at TD Garden in Boston.

The 7th annual event, sponsored by Boston Bruins Charities, featured first responders, military and some civilians running and walking a grueling course of steps and concourses.

The challenge raised money for several first-responder and military-related charities, including: 100 Club of Massachusetts, New England Firefighter Cancer Fund, Kappa Sigma Military Heroes, Massachusetts Ambulance Foundation, Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, 22 Mohawks and Live Boston 617

This year's challenge featured 1,622 participants 0n 231 teams. The event raised $617,828.

The team from the Tewksbury PD was competing for a third straight year and raised $300.

"The event is so meaningful because it both donates to first responder charities and encourages members of our department to be active, get in shape and participate," Mike Donovan, detective sergeant of the Tewksbury PD, told Patch. "We really preach to our officers to live a healthy lifestyle both physically and mentally, and this event gives officers a reason to be active."
