TEWKSBURY, MA — The Tewksbury Police Department has introduced a new officer trading card contest designed to help youth in the community become familiar with the local officers, while also earning prizes.

Fifteen trading cards have been created, each featuring a TPD officer — though a few have officers and their police K-9 —along with information about the officer.

Tewksbury residents ages 17 and under are encouraged to print out a checklist featuring all the cards and then try to obtain as many cards as possible.

According to the rules of the contest, children may collect trading cards by approaching participating officers, writing an individual officer a letter and delivering it to the police station, or by following social media for hints about where to find different officers.

Additionally, students will have an opportunity to meet many of the participating officers at the inaugural Public Safety Night, which takes place at 3 p.m. Sunday at Tewksbury High School.

Each child that collects all 15 cards is then asked to bring their collection to the police station for verification. Once verified, the child is eligible to select a prize from the prize box, according to contest organizers.

The drawing for the yet-to-be-named grand prize takes place on Sept. 30.

"Our hope is to provide a fun and interactive way for (children) to interact with our officers and wins some prizes," the TPD said in a statement. "The primary goal is to teach the children that our officers are friendly, helpful and approachable."

More details about the trading card contest are available on the Town of Tewksbury website.
