Tewksbury Positive Rate Falls To 5.4%, Still High Risk

TEWKSBURY, MA — Tewksbury's positive test rate fell to 5.4 percent, just above the high-risk threshold, according to the latest Massachusetts Department of Health city and town coronavirus report Thursday.

The town's two-week positive rate fell 0.7 percentage points, from 6.1 last week, but remains above the 5 percent threshold, according to the state report.

The town had 171 active coronavirus cases Thursday, up 14 from a week before.

Dozens of cities and towns were removed from the high-risk category Thursday, amid a multi-week decline in coronavirus rates across the state.

The seven-day average positive test rate for the state fell to 4.44 percent, down a percentage point over the last week. Statewide case counts, hospitalizations and deaths also all fell over the last week, although all measures remained far above the lows over the summer.

Tewksbury had 268 cases over the last two weeks, or 62 average daily cases per 100,000 residents, versus 331 cases in last week's report.

According to the latest town report, 2,688 residents have tested positive for the virus and 105 have died.
