The Tewksbury Public Library recently created a StoryWalk on the library grounds.
“A StoryWalk is a fun, educational activity that places the pages from a children’s story along a popular walking route in your community,” explains Children’s Librarian Noelle Boc, who spearheaded the project.

The library’s StoryWalk features a popular children’s folktale, “Coyote” by Gerald McDermott. Wherever Coyote goes, you can be sure he’ll find trouble. Now he wants to sing, dance, and fly like the crows, so he begs them to teach him how. The crows agree but soon tire of Coyote’s bragging and boasting. They decide to teach the great trickster a lesson. This time, Coyote has found real trouble!
The library’s StoryWalk begins near the walkway by the 9/11 Memorial and winds around behind the library. It will be up for the next couple of weeks.

“If you come to the library this month with little ones, please take our new StoryWalk!,” encourages Boc. “Your family can both get some exercise and have fun reading a great story.”
Participants of the StoryWalk are encouraged to sign in on the log book, located on the beginning of the Walk.
StoryWalks were created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont, when she worked for the Vermont Department of Health. Anne was thinking about ways to prevent or lessen the impact of chronic disease on adults and children by increasing physical activity. She wanted to find something that was fun for families to do together in natural settings.
