Veteran arts journalist Nick Zaino explores Boston’s long history of comedy, from vaudeville to YouTube, highlighting some of the personalities that have defined laughter in America for 100 years. Highlighted comedians include Eva Tanguay, Fred Allen, Rusty Warren, Tom Lehrer, Norm Crosby, Bill Dana, Jay Leno, Denis Leary, Paula Poundstone, Steven Wright, Janeane Garofalo, Conan O’Brien, Eugene Mirman, Mike Birbiglia, Bo Burnham, Chris Fleming, Sam Jay, Ziwe, and many more.

Bring your jigsaw puzzles to swap. Puzzle pieces should be sealed tightly in a ziplock bag inside the box. Please tape the puzzle box close. Puzzle pieces should be totally disassembled -- no chunks! Participants may swap one-for-one (e.g., bring 2 puzzles, take 2 puzzles). Participants may also "purchase" puzzles, with a recommended donation of $2 (for a 500-piece puzzle) and $5 (for a 1,000-piece puzzle). These donations will benefit the Friends of the Tewksbury Library. Library Trustee Sue Pedersen will oversee the swap, which will take place from 9:30am to 11:30am, in the library's lobby. Don't forget about the Puzzle Race happening in the Meeting Room at 10:30am.

Assemble your team for a chance at puzzle victory! The first team to complete a special 500-piece puzzle will take home all the glory. Prizes will be given to the first, second and third place teams. To keep the competition relatively even, please note this race is intended for "amateur" puzzle racers. (People who don't regularly compete in speed racing.) Feel free to bring your own puzzles for a puzzle swap, which takes place from 9:30am to 11:30am, in the library's lobby, organized by Library Trustee Sue Pedersen. You can swap before and/or after you finish the race.

VIRTUAL: The Invention of Charlotte Brontë - Her Last Years And The Scandal That Made Her (*RR)

Author Graham Watson will discuss his new book, The Invention of Charlotte Brontë: A New Life. Based entirely on rarely seen private letters, Watson sheds new light on the dramatic events of Brontë’s turbulent last years of grief, fulfillment, and tragedy -- and exposes the astonishing media scandal that followed her early death, when her friends and family battled to control how history would remember her. Join us as Graham discusses Charlotte's life, writing, and death as well as his own research and writing of this book. Watson is a specialist in the Brontës and Elizabeth Gaskell, and he is currently researching Victorian literary identities at the University of Glasgow.

VIRTUAL: The History Of The Flying Santa At New England Lighthouses (*RR)

Learn about the 95-year history of the Flying Santa aerial visits to New England lighthouses. Aviation pioneer Captain William Wincapaw of Friendship, Maine began the flights as a gesture of recognition to the dedicated lighthouse keepers and their families as well as the crews of the lifesaving stations. Nearly 100 years later, the program remains in place thanks to the Friends of Flying Santa, which strives to continue the annual Christmas helicopter flights and carry on this gesture of gratitude to the men, women and families of the United States Coast Guard who keep watch over our coastal waters. Led by Jeremy D'Entremont, historian of the U.S. Lighthouse Society and Vice President of Friends of Flying Santa.

The Library 50+ Job Seekers Networking Group meets via Zoom on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month, from 9:30am to 11:30am. Informal networking takes place from 9am to 9:30am and 11:30am to noon. If you are unemployed and actively looking, underemployed, seeking a new career direction, re-entering the job market after a long employment gap, or recently retired and looking for your "Encore Career," this networking group program is perfect for you! Remember, 85% of jobs are found through networking! Join us in a professional forum for networking with peers in a safe and comfortable environment conducive to developing new relationships and developing skills and strategies to help in your career transition. Each meeting features a new topic. Meetings include a presentation and interactive workshop on topics relevant to career transition, guest speakers, access to hiring managers, small group breakout rooms to network, and 1-on-1 coaching guidance. Join us for snacks and a movie on the big screen as we watch Rise of the Guardians! Feel free to bring your own snacks, water, and/or blankets and pillows to get comfy. We will have some snacks, fidgets to use during the event and chairs provided. This event is open to all ages. Rise of the Guardians is rated PG. The run time is 1 hour and 37 minutes. This showing is for all ages and is sensory inclusive. This means that quiet is not expected or anticipated. Feel free to move around, bring your iPad/devices, wear noise cancelling headphones, and more. We will have fidgets available in the back of the room.

Please be ready to participate and play. Don't worry, we will have a printout with all of the songs and rhymes we are using so you can follow along! Story Times run in sessions. You can drop in one week, every week or however works best for your schedule. No registration is required. Toddler Story Time will run every Monday from September 8 - December 15 (excluding closings and other exceptions).

IN PERSON: Barks & Books with Benny (*RR)

Children (especially those struggling with reading) are invited to sign up for a one-on-one session with our service dog Benny on Tuesday afternoons. Barks and Books are open to children reading independently. Each session lasts for 15 minutes in private - just you, Benny, and his human Mom, Melanie. Bring your own book or borrow one of ours to read. This is a great way to build literacy confidence and fluency with a non-judgmental canine reading partner!

Preschool playgroup is a weekly group where kids can meet, play, and learn. Pick up STEM and literacy skills, and have some fun while you're at it! Sponsored by Community Teamwork Inc's Family Resource Network. The Family Resource Network is funded by the Coordinated Family and Community Engagement Grant (CFCE) from the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care.
